THE MARTYRS’ WALK EXISTS BECAUSE YOUR STRUGGLES ARE OUR STRUGGLES.

Jason Murphy, our founder, came from a difficult childhood, having divorced parents and being exposed to abuse at an early age. He was raised a cradle Catholic, but practicing his faith wasn’t a priority. This difficult upbringing led to him abusing drugs and alcohol with an addiction to pornography. He lacked direction and focus which led to deep depression and contemplating suicide by age twenty.

A friend of his convinced him not to take his life. 

Once rock bottom was hit, one day Jason’s friend saw a crucifix hanging on his wall, which his devoted grandmother had gifted him years ago. He assumed Jason was Catholic, so he invited him to return to church after not practicing his faith for years. That Sunday changed his life forever. He experienced unseen reverence, tradition, and beauty that day and began attending each week afterwards.

A sincere conversion of life and profound desire to learn more about Christ began.
One he had a taste of this new way of living, this better way, there was no looking back. His reversion back to God included time spent in a traditional brothers' novitiate and Catholic seminary where the foundation of his Faith was built. This new way of life led him on a path of vocational discernment for several years where he was ultimately called to marriage, family life and a successful real estate development career.

Men's leadership and ministry
Jason became involved with the Knights of Columbus in 2004 and helped to establish the Catholic Men's Conference of the Carolinas in 2010. This new path also led to a weekly men's radio show called 'The Obligation' on a local Catholic radio network for three years which focused on masculinity, reversion and conversion stories, and men's leadership.  Although he stayed busy with these works, there was still a longing he felt by God calling him to go deeper since busy does not always mean best.

And that is when he got "the call."
Although life has been good to him, he felt that he still wasn’t living up to his God-given potential.  He felt a tug that God wanted more from him. At that point, he asked, “What do you want me to do, Lord?” After months of prayer and discernment, clarity was finally given that an intensive and holistically Christian men's bootcamp retreat was the answer.  He was open to God’s will to show him what to do about this, and the rest is history.   The Martyrs' Walk was born in February of 2023 and gave a new sense of hope to do something more purposeful not only with his life,

but to each man who joins "The Walk" to break free from complacency and live more for God.
