THE MONASTIC HORARIUM, OR SCHEDULE, IS THE HEARTBEAT OF THE MONASTIC
COMMUNITY IN WHICH THE MONASTERY FUNCTIONS AS AN INSTITUTION AND
PUNCTUATES THE SPECIFIED TIMES FOR GIVING THANKS AND PRAISE TO GOD.
THE MARTYRS' WALK HORARIUM IS MODELED AFTER THIS STRUCTURE
The brothers will present themselves each day in a strict, silent, and ordered formation in preparation for the day's Walk. There will be no tolerance for tardiness or deviation.
The Roman Martyrology is the Church's extensive list of those who have courageously laid down their lives for the Faith. The brothers will model their day after the death of the saints.
Originally coined by St. Benedict for his monks, the term literally means, "prayer" and "work." During this time, the brothers will face the days tasks which require the efforts of both.
In monastic communities, chapter is the time for the brothers to discuss the "business" and "rule" of the monastery. Formal lessons, corrections and commentary shall be dispersed.
After having spent the day's Walk in prayer, sacrifice, and suffering, the brothers shall then convene in a less formal gathering to share their experiences of the day's exercises.
After the events of the day are completed, the brothers shall abstain from all noise and speaking until morning breakfast. There will be no tolerance for deviation.
The Martyrs' Walk is the premier Ignatian retreat, spiritual exercises & bootcamp experience designed to forge a man in brotherhood, forge a man in Christ, and forge a man for life.
